In the 1700's, Gibraltar's population was made up of many Genoese who transformed the architectural style of Gibraltar by introducing shutters, iron balconies and sash windows.
Whilst the colour scheme of Upper Town 1 is reminiscent of this period, these windows are some of the few in the Upper Town that do not have the shutters which are so characteristic of that part of Gibraltar.
